Yellow Boxfish

Yellow Boxfish

Ostracion cubicus

Bright yellow with black spots as a juvenile, this fish is a favorite for its unique shape and color. As it matures, the yellow fades to a more mustard or blue-grey tone. It is a slow swimmer and needs plenty of room.

About the Boxfish Family

Boxfish and Cowfish are instantly recognizable by their rigid, box-like bodies. They are slow swimmers and should not be kept with aggressive tank mates that might bully them. Caution is required because if they become highly stressed or die, they can release a powerful toxin that may wipe out the entire tank.
