Pipefish tend to be a hardy family of fish when provided with the correct conditions. They're oftentimes kept with sea horses since both require very peaceful, low flow environments. They do not make good companions with high energy or aggressive fish and can be easily killed by the stings of anemones and coral.
They feed on copepods in the live rock but also generally require supplementary food like frozen mysis shrimp.
In general, pipefish should be kept by experienced aquarium owners in specialized tanks.
