Seahorses tend to be a hardy family of fish when provided with the correct conditions. They're oftentimes kept with pipefish since both require very peaceful, low flow environments. They do not make good companions with high energy or aggressive fish and can be easily killed by the stings of anemones and coral. Seahorses should always be kept in groups of at least two as solitary seahorses will generally die.

They feed on copepods in the live rock but also generally require supplementation with baby brine shrimp.

In general, seahorses should be kept by experienced aquarium owners in specialized tanks.
