Wrasses are a small, lively, generally peaceful family of fish. Skilled swimmers, you'll oftentimes find them out darting through tunnels in rocks. Because they're able to move so swiftly, they're also very good at jumping out of your tank. Ensure that you have a lid to keep them contained. Though they're known to occasionally nip when a fish gets too close, wrasses are mostly peaceful and will generally not bother other fish. Not all species are reef safe, though, so make sure you pay attention to the specific attributes of the species you're interested in.
At night, wrasses tend to burrow into the sand bed to sleep. You'll need a relatively deep sand bed as a result so that they're able to burrow down. They also, at times, will burrow when stressed. If your wrasse is missing, it's very possible that they simply got scared and started digging.
Most species will live just fine on flake foods, but certain species have more specific dietary requirements like live copepods. If you aren't able to provide live foods or don't have a well-established tank, just stick to the easier to care for species like the Fairy Wrasse or the Six Line Wrasse.
