Teira Batfish

Teira Batfish

Platax teira

Also known as the Longfin Batfish, this species is identified by a dark blotch on the lower body behind the pelvic fins. They are active swimmers and very hardy once established, but their eventual size makes them a challenge for most home tanks.

About the Batfish Family

Batfish are admired for their unique shape and the long, flowing fins of juveniles. However, they grow very quickly and lose their long fins as they mature, becoming large, disc-shaped fish. They require massive tanks and are generally peaceful, but they are not reef-safe as they will eat anemones and corals.
