Spotted Boxfish

Ostracion meleagris

A smaller boxfish species where males and females look strikingly different. Males are often blue with yellow and white spots, while females are black with white spots. They are peaceful but require a steady supply of food throughout the day.

About the Boxfish Family

Boxfish and Cowfish are instantly recognizable by their rigid, box-like bodies. They are slow swimmers and should not be kept with aggressive tank mates that might bully them. Caution is required because if they become highly stressed or die, they can release a powerful toxin that may wipe out the entire tank.
