Orange Spotted Filefish

Orange Spotted Filefish

Oxymonacanthus longirostris

A beautiful but highly specialized species that feeds primarily on Acropora coral polyps. They are considered difficult to keep and should only be introduced to established reef tanks with plenty of coral.

About the Filefish Family

Filefish are unique oddballs with a rough, sandpaper-like skin texture. The most popular species, the Aiptasia-Eating Filefish, is often introduced specifically to control pest anemones. While generally peaceful, they are not always 100% reef-safe and may nip at soft corals or polyps once their preferred food source is gone.
