Mimic Filefish

Mimic Filefish

Paraluteres prionurus

An amazing example of mimicry, this filefish looks almost identical to the Valentini Puffer to trick predators into thinking it is poisonous. Unlike the puffer it mimics, it is generally very peaceful and reef-safe with caution.

About the Filefish Family

Filefish are unique oddballs with a rough, sandpaper-like skin texture. The most popular species, the Aiptasia-Eating Filefish, is often introduced specifically to control pest anemones. While generally peaceful, they are not always 100% reef-safe and may nip at soft corals or polyps once their preferred food source is gone.
