Longspine Squirrelfish
Holocentrus rufus
Commonly found in the Caribbean, this species has a very long, prominent dorsal spine. It is a hardy addition to a fish-only or large reef tank where small invertebrates are not a priority.
About the Squirrelfish Family
Squirrelfish are nocturnal fish characterized by their large eyes and typically red coloration. Because they are active at night, they prefer tanks with plenty of caves and overhangs to hide in during the day. They are generally peaceful but will eat small crustaceans like shrimp and crabs.
